What role does foreign language literature didactics play in placing sustainability at the centre of foreign language teaching? The article presents three educational policy documents that can serve as guidance: the UNESCO Roadmap ESD 2030, the Guide to Embedding Textbooks for Sustainable Development and the GreenComp. Sustainability is communicated culturally. Raising critical-ecological awareness of cultural sustainability by engaging with literature and language is therefore also a core task of foreign language teaching.
