Abstract

The article deals with chain questions to promote communicative competence in the Russian language classroom and offers already tested didactic material with a ready-made set of chain questions. It emphasizes the central role of speaking skills in foreign language teaching and introduces an interactive method with chain questions, which aims to motivate students to speak freely with classmates in small steps, to institutionalize foreign language speaking in the classroom, and to increase students’speaking time during class through motivating and interesting activities for them. The use of chain questions is explained in detail. It is closely related to the training of reading and listening skills. The subsequent training of speaking skills is demonstrated with concrete examples. A set of chain questions on the topic Знакомство („Getting to know each other“) is attached to the current article.
