The significance of audiovisual media for young people can hardly be overstated: Films, series, YouTube formats and social media have an impact on perception, communication and cultural practices. In light of this it seems only logical to systematically use these media in language teaching as well. For teaching Russian, however, there were no recent, didactically founded and practice-guided analyses until recently, when Eva Binder and Magdalena Kaltseis filled this very gap with their monography Audiovisuelle Medien im Russischunterricht (Audiovisual Media in Russian Language Teaching), released in 2025 by the publishing house Narr-Francke-Attempto. The authors combine academic perspectives from cultural and media studies as well as the didactics of language with tried-and-tested teaching materials and thus create a foundational work that is both theoretically well-founded and directly useful in practice.
