Didactic Challenges of Social-Based Learning Offers in Times of the COVID-19 Pandemic
A Practical Example of an Online Platform for Learning Russian

This paper describes the use of theasynchronous, structured, and online-based learning platform “Trans-Siberian Language Journey” (German: Transsibirische Sprachreise) during the COVID-19 pandemic with a heterogeneous group of Russian foreign language learners in Berlin. The platform is based on a WordPress website with anH5P plugin. Additionally, synchronous online meetings via Zoom as well as an online chat accompanied the course. The following paper presents the structure of the course as well as the didactic considerations regarding the development of the materials. Moreover, the technical side of the platform, further technical alternatives and the feedback of the participants will be reflected on. Finally, future development possibilities of online-based asynchronous learning settings in adult education as well as in the school context will be discussed.
